AutoCAD vs Creo Schematics for Wiring Diagrams and System Interconnects

$

We are currently evaulating Creo Schematics to replace AutoCAD for wiring diagrams and system interconnects diagrams. I'd be interested in companies and or individuals that have currently taken the plunge and switched over. We have been using Creo Schematics AKA RSD for the past 2 years to drive our harnesses in Pro Cable and are familiar with the product. It's time now to see if we can get to the same level of productivity we have in AutoCAD for wiring and system interconnect block diagrams.

I have contacted PTC, but I don't have a real warm fuzzy on the user community yet and what companies are actually using Creo Schematics.

Thanks for your time

PRO-Piping: Measuring Overall Pipe Length

$

Hello there PlanetPTC people, I am working in Pro-Piping and I am trying to figure out the most efficient way to measure the overall length of a pipe. I know I can measure each curve piece by piece and add them up, but it would be much nicer if I could just measure each pipe as a whole. Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Piping line lengths for multiple assemblies...

Hi All...

In my business we create master piping assemblies that represent electrical connections from point A to point B. Each A to B connection is comprised of multiple piped components created within the top assembly.  I need to generate a report of overall lengths for each A to B run.  I can get the individual component line lengths easy enough, but am looking for an automated way to get an output of the overall A to B connection (calculated total length of all the sub components end to end).

Is there an easy way to do this within the base Creo package or would this have to be a special tool?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help...

Does anybody already have to create a spool for a fiber optics(optical fiber)?

My feeling would be to manage it as a cable...

Any suggestion or sharing of experience would be great.

Thanks

add generic values on drawing family table (to shown instance values)

Hi togehter,

I have a problem with a table on a drawing that shows values of instances.

We sometimes build up "tubes" (for example), but later recognise that there should be some addition lengths available and add them in a family table.

But the generic is one of the "members", its not a stupid dummy.

I try to get the information of the instances into my table on the drawing, as well as the ones from the generic.

Does anybody know, how to do so? As there are lots of old family tables out there in our system that are build up this way I cannot change them all (and all assemblys) by adding the generic as an instance...

Enclosed my current table, the last line adds the name of the generic but is not linked to the value information of the instances...

any helping hand would be great

Unpopulated table cells in Creo 2 Cabling drawings

In a cable harness drawing I want a table that details a connector with it's name and [model name], its pins, cooresponding wires attached to the pins, and the coresponding colors associated with the wires.  See picture below.

pinout1.PNG

Commands:

Name: mbr.connprm.name

pin: mbr.connprm.pin.name

Conductor: mbr.connprm.pin.run.cond.name

Color: mbr.connprm.pin.run.cond.color

This I got from the Creo 2 tutorial class for Cabling, but it never works on any cable I create. Does it requires a certain parameter to be defined in order to link to the table properly? I can link it with other commands but once I use the connprm command it fails to populate

Piping ISO View and Parametric Bend Table

I used to work on piping drawing, I need to place ISO view of individual pipes in an piping assembly drawing with parametric Pipe Bend table,

For example: If an assembly is having 5 pipes, I need to get five pipes iso view to be placed in separate sheets with corresponding Parametric bend table for the pipe in the same drawing file.

Creo 2.0: Cable to splice

Hello,

I have 2 questions.

  • Why do the wires cross each other like this? (The white squares are my splices) It doesn't really do anything, but it makes it hard to follow wires sometimes.

Routing.JPG

  • And I have been playing around with my splices so that it will route everything automatically, but there are a few hick-ups.... like in the next picture.

splice routing.JPG

The red wire exits from the top of the splice, because of that I can't add it to a bundle. I know if I delete the routing and start over again. I can get it to work (for this splice) but here is the kicker. If I do the same for the splice underneath it, next in line of the routing, I get that same routing again for this splice. So I am not able to fix both. So I this a bug on creo 2.0 side of is my splice no good? I have about a 100 splice in my (small) network so it already takes a huge amount of time to reroute the network over and over again. The only thing I've found to "fix" it, is to delete the entry port of the splice and assign it manually.

I can use some help on how to implent a splice correctly (and what the model should have). The splice has only 1 pin, 2 c_sys's turn 180* from each other. At the moment, I instert the splice with "Assemble", assign my 2 C_SYS as "ENTRY_PORT", route an end of a network to each.

I do it like this because the instert splice doesn't want to work AT ALL for me. When I use that, all my wires come in at 1 end of the splice.

Thank you in advance,

With kind regards,

Ron
